JANE – FAREWELL and THANK YOU!
In mid-December 2019, Jane Packard, a stalwart of the Farmanco Grain Marketing team for 12 years departed Farmanco to pursue a new dream!
Jane says –
My new business venture is VERY IRONICALLY all about NO GRAIN, and I’m very excited to pursue something so totally different from the business I have centred my professional life around. My business is Primal Alternative Baked by Jane and you can find me on Facebook https://facebook.com/PrimalAlternativeBakedbyJane. I supply packet mixes for some really yummy grain-free products, that will go beautifully in the post if anyone would like to try!!
We asked Jane to reflect a little on her time in Farmanco, with a Q&A!
Jane, can you remember your first days with Farmanco?
I remember parts of my first days with Farmanco like it was yesterday. I had been working with CBH and AWB in the years leading up to taking my opinions and thoughts on grain marketing into the world of private consulting. I was particularly excited about sharing my experience and hearing lots from new clients.
What attracted you to the role in Farmanco? Our Grain Marketing team was very new then.
It was a time of huge change in the grains industry. Deregulation was upon us and moving into a new‑look industry was exciting. Being part of that from a consulting perspective was really appealing. Being able to advise clients on selling grain anywhere was attractive. That feeling of real independence was what I loved, when talking to clients.
What are some of the changes you’ve seen in the Grain Marketing industry in your years on the job?
The biggest change was deregulation. My training and foundations within the grains industry were with the AWB and at the time they operated a single desk marketing system. To move away from that was perhaps the biggest change I saw.
What excites you about the industry (agriculture and/or grain marketing) going forward?
Farmers are smart and innovative, and so is the industry in which they operate. New technology to keep making the business of selling grain simpler and more streamlined i.e. Blockchain is very exciting.
And, as you reflect on your time with us Jane, what are some of your own achievements?
I experienced Farmanco from a full‑time consulting perspective, plus a part‑time capacity while raising three children. I was able to remain engaged with the industry I love in both roles.
I’ll always be happy that I’ve shown my children that I know much much more than just the things needed to keep a household running. I’m happy to have taught them that mums can be good at things outside of the home. And my love of farming and all things agriculture is something I’ve been able to a pass onto them while working for Farmanco.
Farmanco’s Grain Marketing team say:
It has been wonderful having Jane as part of our tight-knit Marketing team for more than a decade. We will miss Jane, especially her positivity. So much has changed in grain marketing over Jane’s time with Farmanco, and she has helped both clients and the rest of the Marketing team navigate it all.
Jane has been a highly valued member of TEAM MARKETING and the wider Farmanco Group and her professionalism when dealing with clients over her time with FMC has been brilliant.
Jane has a great attitude towards the grains industry and an exceptional work ethic, and would always provide insightful input to our business and has helped guide us to where we are today
And Ryan adds –
When I first joined Farmanco, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Jane before she took maternity leave. She provided me a great level of support with regard to the Farmanco business and introduced me to some of our great clients. I would like to thank her very much for that.
I would like to wish her and her family all the best for the future and hope that her new baking business is a raging success!
In addition to grain marketing duties, Jane supported the company in many other ways. She helped with the website and social media; she was the voice behind many grain marketing podcasts, as well as the pen behind a large number of marketing articles for Farmanco Facts. Jane was also responsible for the shaping of recordings for all the teams into our podcasts – taking out our long pauses, repetitions and the occasional swear word, and generally making us all sound better! Thanks Jane for all your help and good luck for the future!
Jane, everybody in Farmanco wishes you, Richard and your children the very best and great success in 2020 and beyond.
